Google is adding the Pixel 9 series to its certified refurbished range in the US Google Store, “at up to 45% off.” Each phone comes with a full one-year warranty and genuine Google parts. The announcement is about repair and device lifespan, not a buying guide.
The short answer
- When: Google announced it on 15 October 2026, around International Repair Day.
- The discount: “up to 45%” has no stated basis. Google does not say what the discount is measured against, and independent press prices (a Pixel 9 at $499 against an original $799, about 37.5%) do not confirm 45%.
- Where: the only markets named are the United States and Japan. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf are not mentioned.
- What you get: a phone restored with genuine Google parts, the latest Android software, 100% plastic-free packaging and a one-year warranty. Return terms are not stated.
What did Google announce?
Google’s post lists several items. The table shows what it says about each one and what it leaves out.

| Other items mentioned | Pixel Care+ (cracks, spills, drops), country repair pages with “transparent price estimates” (no figures), a global walk-in repair network using genuine parts, and Trade-In for store credit |
What is actually on sale, and at what price?
9to5Google reported on 12 October, three days before Google’s post, that the Pixel 9 series (not the Fold) had gone onto the US Certified Refurbished portal. The prices were $499 for the Pixel 9 (out of stock at the time), $649 for the Pixel 9 Pro and $699 for the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Each came with a multi-point test, a one-year warranty, genuine Google parts and a fully unlocked phone. Returns are not covered.
The only original price in that report is $799 for the Pixel 9. That puts $499 at roughly 37.5% off, a simple calculation and not a figure from Google. No original prices are given for the Pro models, so “up to 45%” cannot be confirmed.
9to5Google also described a promotion for Pro and Pro XL buyers: a six-month Google AI Plus trial with 2TB of storage, for new subscribers only. It is void if the device is returned and ends on 4 April 2027. A search summary names the plan differently (AI Pro), so check the live terms. Google Store pages and Android Authority could not be opened, so current prices and stock are unconfirmed.
What are the repair and design claims?
- Pixel Watch 4 and 5: Google describes an “industry-leading modular architecture” that avoids heavy gluing. It says iFixit called it the most repairable smartwatch, scoring 9/10. That is Google’s claim in its own post, and the iFixit score was not checked.
- Fitbit Edge: a secondary summary says there is no repair guide, parts pricing or repair availability for it. No price was found.
- Repair prices: Google says country-specific pages show “transparent price estimates” but gives no numbers. The post also does not state software update years.
What should you ask before buying?
These are suggestions, not part of Google’s announcement.
- What original price was the discount calculated from? In the independent example it was about 37.5%, not 45%.
- What is the return window? No source states it.
- Does your national store sell refurbished? Only the US and Japan are named here.
- Are parts and service available locally? No Saudi figures exist.
The basis for the 45% discount and the return terms could not be found, so check the Google Store before buying.
